Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself
I’ve been gone for a bit, recovering from illness. I’m making my way back to a normal routine and realized that I never wrote a proper introduction for this column. So, in the words of Jay-Z: Allow me to reintroduce myself.
My name is Teresa and welcome to Talking Good. In this space, I’ll write about the people, places, and learnings that have helped to shape me and my Iowa journey.
I’m a momma of three, a wife to a Des Moines firefighter, and I appreciate good conversation and good food. I’ve spent more than 20 years combining my passions for social services and storytelling.
I cut my “storytelling teeth” as a news assistant for the Des Moines Register.
I’m the founder of Stories to Tell My Daughter, a storytelling experience created to highlight the lived experiences of Black women and women of of color. I’m also the owner of Teresa Zilk Creative Consulting LLC. I help individuals and organizations use the power of story to facilitate change, self-awareness and increase authentic communication.
I’m also a mental health advocate and a Drake graduate student studying counseling.
I’m thrilled to be a member of the Iowa Writers Collaborative. Please explore other writers in the group.
