For my Christopher who left us December 19, 2020.
You are seven, the thought of losing you never crosses my mind.
I caught this glimpse of you spinning
Your arms stretched wide
Turning in circles
The cottonwood tree baptizing you
Covering you in soft white clumps
Your eyes aglow in wonder
You shine with innocence
I replay this moment and am filled with regret that I didn’t join you
That you danced with light.
There was no way to know we were marking time
Beautiful boy
Gone too soon
I can still see you spinning in August.
